The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.

Hebrews 13:15

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Because of our belief and faith in Jesus, Christians have the absolute guarantee of a permanent address change in the future, leaving this world behind to move to the enduring, holy city to come, the Holy City we read about in Revelation, chapter 21.

This blessed assurance not only gives Christ followers the assurance that their best life is yet to come but if offers the opportunity to lift praises up to the God who made it all possible. This is the exhortation we find in today’s verse from Hebrews 13 and the eleventh message in this series.

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name. v.15

Note here the sequencing of the prescribed praise process.

First, we are to do it through Jesus for it’s because of Him that we are saved. Whether it’s praise or the promise of eternal life in residence with the God who made us, it all goes through the Son (John 14:6).

Once working through Jesus, note that the praise we lift up is to be continual. In other words, there is to be no pausing or ceasing the thanks we lift up to God, a thanks we offer up as an offering to Him.

Finally, our sacrifice of admiration and devotion to God through Jesus is to include openly professing His name. In other words, we are to always look for opportunities to tell others about what God has done to save us through Christ and this persistent, consistent proclaiming becomes pleasing fruit from our lips for the ears of our Lord to hear.

Today’s blessed exhortation is simple. We’re to offer unending, public praise to God by way of His Son Jesus. And with all our Lord has done for us, it’s as easy as breathing.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
