The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

After he said this, the Jews left, arguing vigorously among themselves.

For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!

Acts 28:29-31

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Look at Acts 1 and you’ll see that it begins with Jesus and as we see in today’s final devotion of the study of this book, things end with Jesus as well but we can’t really call it “the end”. Because when we are dealing with our Savior, we know that everything concerning Him is eternal in nature.

Indeed, nothing has stopped Jesus from being proclaimed by evangelists through the ages and nothing will ever stop the Gospel from being shared. Not ever. As long as there are people who need salvation, the Gospel, and the Jesus it is grounded in, will reign supreme.

This is important for us to remember as we say farewell to Paul and move onto the many of the letters he wrote, some of which were penned while he was under guarded house arrest in Rome. We’ll start to look at his Epistle to the Romans tomorrow but before we get there, let’s see what Acts tells us about the work of the apostle as the book draws to a close. Look again at the passage here:

After he said this, the Jews left, arguing vigorously among themselves.

For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!  Acts 28:29-31

While the Roman Jews quarreled over Paul’s assertion that God had allowed the gift of salvation to be offered freely to the Gentiles, Paul was doing what he did best. For we read where he welcomed all who came to see him in his “rented house” and “proclaimed the kingdom of God” while teaching “about the Lord Jesus Christ”. And in typical Paul fashion, he didn’t go about his work with timidity. Rather, he did so with bravado, sharing the good news of the Gospel with “all boldness” and “without hindrance”.

You see, Paul knew that they could do whatever they wanted to him but nothing would keep him from proclaiming the name of Jesus and the salvation found only in Him. They could beat him, they could persecute him, they could threaten his life, and they could even incarcerate him but all the best efforts of those who tried to silence him failed miserable. For the Gospel is enduring.

As mentioned, starting tomorrow we will look at Paul’s letter to the Romans. It’s not a letter he wrote after the events of Acts played out. Rather, it’s believed Paul wrote the epistle while in Corinth during his third missionary journey. Romans is one of my favorite parts of the New Testament outside of the Gospels, especially chapter 8. I am looking forward to sharing God’s word with you from the letter and hope you’ll come back regularly for the study.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
