The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:20

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Jesus is with us always and He will until the very end of the age.

This truth is what is found at the very end of what we know as “The Great Commission” and sadly it is too often the great omission when people think of the marching orders that Jesus gave His disciples - past, present, and future.

Yes, He sends us out every day to make disciples and to baptize and to teach others to obey all that He has commanded but He doesn’t send us out to carry on His work on our own. Rather, He is with us as we respond to His expectations in obedience, guiding and advising us along the way. He did it more than 2,000 years ago, He has done it since then until present times, and He will continue to walk alongside His disciples as they do His bidding until the end of the age, the time when He returns and hits the reset button on all creation. We know when that happens, the heaven and earth we know will be no more and a new heaven and earth will replace it, the earth inhabited by the saved. That earth will be sinless and so there will be no transgressor to offer salvation to and therefore, The Great Commission will no longer be needed.

But until that time comes, there’s much work to do and Jesus expects His followers to be busy, always about their Savior’s business just as He had always been about His Father God’s. And again, in the midst of our evangelistic efforts, the Lord Jesus is with us always.

He’s with all Christians until the end of the age and this is a blessed assurance for us all. Jesus isn’t sitting on the throne of heaven distant and detached from us. Rather, He’s always moving with us in the person of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity. Jesus was and is one with His Father God and He is one with the Holy Spirit as well.

Three in One.

So next time you are feeling alone and abandoned, remember Jesus said He is with you always. He’s there to bring you fellowship and love, to show you how much He cares.

When you’re left dazed and confused by your life circumstances, remember that Jesus said He is with you always. He’s there for you to lead you through the storms of life and bring clarity to help you move beyond your trials and navigate into calmer times.

When the cloud of sorrow and sadness envelops you, remember that Jesus is with you always. He’s the great giver of comfort and peace, the Light that overcomes the dark.

I could go on and on and on but the point has been made. We are never left to fend for ourselves in this thing called life. Jesus has promised we will live with Him and God forever when this life ends, a hope that is meant to sustain no matter what might happen. But we don’t have to wait until death to be with our Savior.

He is with us now.

He is for us now.

And He will be so until the very end of the age.

Thanks be to God for the gift of His Son Jesus, our Savior and Friend who never leaves our side.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
