FOREVER FAITHFULNESS

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 117

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Faithfulness seems to be a word that is losing value today I’m afraid.

Look at the definition of the word and you find these three meanings:

- Adhering firmly and devotedly, as to a person, cause, or idea; loyal.
- Engaging in sex only with one's spouse or only with one's partner in a sexual relationship.
- Having or full of faith.

Now ask yourself these three things:

1. Who are we firmly devoted and loyal to more, others or our self?

2. How many people today remain faithful to their spouse or partner?

3. How many people live with a steadfast faith in anything?

If you’re honest with your answers to these questions and have your eyes open to what’s happening in the world around us, then I think you’ll see why I have concerns about our level of faithfulness.

So how do we turn this around? How can our world become more faithful? How can we become more faithful?

All the answers are found in the only One who is perfectly faithful, the only One who displays forever faithfulness.

We know the Lord is forever faithful because God’s word tells us so and we know His word is truth. Look at these words from the 117th Psalm:

Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

Praise the Lord.

Want to start to make your way toward living in faith? Turn to the Lord whose faithfulness endures forever. No one is this faithful to us, absolutely no one. And this forever faithfulness brings with it even more as the Lord grants us His great love, a great love that is as perfect as His faithfulness.

The scriptures have more to say about the steadfast faithfulness of the Lord. Consider these passages:
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9

He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He. Deuteronomy 32:4

And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Exodus 34:6

For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. Psalm 33:4

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of You among the peoples. For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Psalm 108:3-4

He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them — He remains faithful forever. Psalm 146:6

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done wonderful things, things planned long ago. Isaiah 25:1

In the Lord we find a faith that is boundless and abounding, perfect and eternal. When we commit ourselves fully to Him as He is committed to us, then and then only will we begin to exhibit the kind of faithfulness we find in Him, the kind of faithfulness He expects and desires.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
