The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal.

1 Timothy 6:15b-16a

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

In yesterday’s opening devotion in this series on the Qualities of God, we saw the scriptures affirming our Lord’s ultimate authority over all creation. The Maker of all things is also the Master over all He made. He is the “blessed and only Ruler” who is the King of all kings and Lord over all lords. Since the very beginning, He has no rival or equal as He reigns in absolute sovereignty over everything in Heaven and on earth.

Today, we see another important quality of God revealed in the first part of 1 Timothy 6, verse 16. For the scriptures tell us that God “alone is immortal”.

In other words, the God who oversees creation with complete supremacy over it will never cease to be. He will never die.

Of interest, the Christian group, Newsboys, released a single that was titled, “God’s Not Dead” in 2011. The chorus carried these words:

My God's not dead, He's surely alive

He's living on the inside, roaring like a lion

God's not dead, He's surely alive

He's living on the inside, roaring like a lion

It was a song that called for revival, for people who may be dead in their faith or sins to allow the living God to bring their souls back to life with the energy and power one would find in the roar of a mighty lion.

This song had a big impact on Christian culture at the time as a movie bearing the same title was born out of it in 2014. In the movie, a Christian college student was challenged by his unbelieving philosophy professor to prove his point that God was real and alive, not simply a fictional entity. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it, especially as we encounter other people in our evangelistic journeys who, like the professor in the movie, question the reality of God’s existence.

Indeed, God isn’t dead and is very much alive today as He has been since the dawn of creation (Genesis 1:1 states “In the beginning God”) and will always be because He alone is immortal.

Friends this is good news for all of us, news we should embrace and never take advantage. For is God is a forever God who cannot die then everything about Him is forever as well.

His total authority will endure forever.

His amazing, unmatched power will endure forever.

His boundless love will endure forever.

His undeserved mercy and grace will endure forever but so will His judgment for those who choose to not believe in Jesus as Savior.

His perfect wisdom and truth will endure forever as will every promise He has made.

Today and every day, let us rejoice and be glad that our God has the quality of immortality and will be alive and abiding with us forever.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
