The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-11

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

______________________________________________________________________

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

This is the foundation for lifelong hope for all people who believe in Jesus as Savior and it is the true hope for the unsaved, those who have yet to believe in Christ.

The ramifications of this truth are eternal in nature because death no longer has any sting in life as it is swallowed up in the victory of the cross and empty tomb. Every single person who has called on the name of the Lord Jesus will gain salvation, ushered into eternal life with their Savior and the Father God who sent Him to save.

Because of Jesus, no Christian lives in darkness. They are children of light because the One who is the light of the world abides within them. Because of this, believers can let His light shine in the world through the work they do in His name.

Friends, Jesus gives ever Christian reason to rejoice and be glad for “God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation” through His Son, “our Lord Jesus Christ” who “died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him”.

Paul writes these words to lift the spirits of his brothers and sisters in Christ at Thessalonica and the Lord continues to give us these words today to continue to be uplifted. We need to use them to build one another up because this message is one of the two greatest encouragements that we have.

In Christ, we don’t belong to the night or the darkness. We are wide awake with our eyes wide open, free from the sure eternal judgment of God and therefore able to freely go about the work we have been called to do via the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) donning faith and love as a breastplate and our hope of salvation as a helmet.

Today and every day, let Christ believers celebrate and be encouraged because of the salvation assurance God has given us through Christ Jesus.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
