The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“Here is My servant, whom I uphold,
My chosen one in whom I delight; I will put My Spirit on Him.”
This is what God the Lord says—the
Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with
all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who
walk on it:
“I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness.”
Isaiah 42:1a,
5-6a
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
In John 14:6, Jesus proclaims some
of the most fundamental words of the Christian faith:
“I am the way and the truth and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Note here that He said I am the way
and the truth and the life. There is no other way to live and no better person
to follow along life’s pathways when we consider the matter of living right.
For when we fully commit to Jesus as He has fully committed to us, then and
only then can we be assured that we are living in the righteousness that God
expects us to live by, a righteousness that rejects any notion of sin or
wickedness, a righteousness that brings us to a place where God can delight in
us, just as He delighted in His Son.
Indeed, Jesus was sent to this
world to save and to serve mankind but He was not sent here without direction.
Rather, God the Father ordained His Son’s purposes and the way they were to be
carried out. Look at our scripture verses as we continue to examine Isaiah,
Chapter 42:
“Here is My servant, whom I uphold, My chosen one in whom I delight; I
will put My Spirit on Him.”
This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who
stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who
gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:
“I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness.”
Isaiah 42:1a, 5-6a
God sent His Son and placed His
Spirit on Him, calling Him into service and empowering Him with righteousness.
In turn, Jesus lived a perfect life as He followed the will of His Father in
obedience and imparted His righteousness on others. We know this because the
word of God tells us so. Look at these excerpts from the scriptures:
“But now apart from the law, the
righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets
testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to
all who believe.” Romans 3:21-22
When you choose to place your hope
and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, you not only receive the promise of eternal
life (John 3:16) but the gift of His righteousness as well through faith in
Him. Committing your life to being a follower of Jesus means that you choose to
follow in His ways and those ways are always perfectly righteous. Jesus Himself
promised that He would provide righteousness to overflow in any one who
hungered and thirsted for it when He said:
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they
will be filled. Matthew 5:6
This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge
and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may
be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of
righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-11
Indeed, there is never a time that
we commune with Jesus to seek His righteousness when we are left void. Rather,
we always find ourselves filled with His direction and guidance and wisdom,
abounding in knowledge and depth of insight as we discern what is best, pure,
and blameless in the way we live. No one else can provide this for us perfectly
as Jesus can, bringing us to the place of praise and glory unto the God who
made our righteousness possible through His blessed servant Son.
Want to live right?
Live like the servant Jesus did and
you will receive His righteousness to do all that is true and just and
acceptable in God’s sight.
That’s the message the Lord has for
us today. Blessed is His precious and holy word, now and forever more.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
