The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the
wicked and the good.
The
eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the
unfaithful.
Proverbs 15:3, 22:12
This ends this reading from God's holy word.
Thanks be to God.
Big brother is watching. You’ve probably heard this before used by a person
who was concerned about intrusion into their personal privacy to the point
where they would lose a certain liberty. Specifically, this concern is
typically directed at how much a government is trying to control of the lives
of its people.
The “Big Brother” concept was born out of a fictional character in the
book 1984 penned in 1949 by George Orwell. Set in a future time (therefore the
title “1984”), Orwell’s Big Brother was a dictator who through the use of
surveillance and informants controlled every aspect of a person’s life, doing
away with civil liberties. The thing that awe most people about Orwell’s vision
is that none of the advanced technology he wrote of was even available in the
late 40’s. They see his work as visionary and almost prophetic given where are
in our modern times with every sophisticated technology being invented all the
time to spy on or monitor others.
The truth of the matter is that we have always been watched since the
advent of mankind. The concept of constant monitoring is nothing new or
revolutionary or groundbreaking. Whether man (or woman) wants to admit it or
not, they are under constant surveillance and it isn’t just limited to their
actions or words. Even their most innermost thoughts are in clear view of the
Lord who is keeping a consistent and persistent eye on them.
We know this as truth because God’s word tells us so and His word is
truth. Look at these proverbs for proof:
The eyes of the Lord are
everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the Lord
keep watch over knowledge, but
he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. Proverbs 22:12
Indeed, the eyes of the Lord are everywhere. There is nothing concealed
from Him. Nothing.
We often think we can get away with our sins as long as no one can see
what we do. The problem with this mindset is that it is set within earthly boundaries.
Of course, you can commit transgressions out of the field of vision and/or earshot
of another human being. This is doable. What is not doable is finding any place
where you are shielded from the eyes of the Lord.
And we should all be grateful for this.
I don’t know about you but I WANT to be held accountable by the Lord to
the highest extent possible. The only way I can even start to come close to be
the man He wants me to be, the kind of man who is grounded fully in His righteousness,
is to be held to that kind of standard, to the standard of living right. Knowing
I can never escape His sight and because of this will have everything I do, say
or think in plain sight draws me in that direction and thus is an amazing
blessing, a gift freely give to me, and to you, by our God and Father in
heaven.
Worship this in praise, rejoice, and be glad, all the while knowing God is
seeing your joyful celebration because He sees everything.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
