Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

1 Corinthians 10:25-26

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

We’re currently in a time of war in our world as a world superpower has decided to invade a smaller sovereign nation without provocation. This superpower, led by a megalomaniacal president, has left a trail of mass destruction and indiscriminate killing of adults and children in its wake with no sign of stopping until they reach their objective of stealing away the nation to add to its already significant world footprint.

Of course, this power-drunk, domination-obsessed behavior by a world leader is nothing new. History shows us that world powers bent on building empires have existed since the dawn of mankind. In the Bible, we see the Egyptians and then the Assyrians, followed by the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans all take their turn at being in control of the world order but guess what happened?

Once an empire was established, it would fall later, giving way to the next power that had risen. No empire has endured for the ages.

Why?

Because there is only been one power that has endured across time and that power is the Lord God Almighty. He is the Maker and the Master over all creation. In the beginning, there was Him and Him alone (Genesis 1:1). The earth only exists because He made it.

This is the reminder we find the Apostle Paul providing the church in Corinth in verses 25 and 26 of 1 Corinthians 10. Let’s look again at his words here:

“Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

The earth belongs to the Lord and everything in it.

God’s word is perfectly true and so we know this statement is perfectly true.

God dictates everything that happens. Not any nation or person. He is in total control and anyone who tries to cross Him will face His wrath and judgment. This is why no empire in history has endured. Each of them saw their conquests as a product of their own doing. There was no consulting the Lord before actions were taken. Leaders of these mighty world powers saw themselves as gods unto themselves such as what we are seeing in present days here in the twenty-first century.

Yes, we are witnessing yet another power grab with no regard to who is having power removed, a power grab that is occurring without the sanctioning of the Lord who owns the world and everything in it.

So you know how this movie is going to end before the final credits run.

The Lord is going to impose His will on the sinful, wicked nation and its psychotic leader, and that world power is going to fall in a big way. They and the rest of the world are going to be reminded that everyone and everything is absolutely subordinate to the Lord God Almighty, the One who rules and reigns over the earth and the rest of creation.

Amen.
