The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Deep down inside, all people want to be loved. Some may try to deny it but it’s undeniably there.

Indeed, from the moment a newborn babe emerges from their mother’s womb, they incessantly seek to felt cared for, held close with tender kisses falling on their tender faces. And while children begin to grow independent as they advance toward adulthood, nonetheless, they never tire of receiving their parents love and actually run towards it in times of need.

Yet, no matter how strong this love is throughout life, there will be a day when a parent dies and from that time forward, there will be no more hugs or kisses for their children, a truth that lends to the pain of grieving loss. There is a lament associated with knowing and then experiencing that worldly love is temporary.

It’s into this space that we find God enter in, with His assured presence and love affirmed by His Word. Look at these foundational verses found at the end of Romans, chapter 8:

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

Here, we see where there is a permanent love that is available for all people, a holy and divine love that lasts not just for this earthly lifetime but for all eternity. It’s a love that is so fixed that it cannot be separated from anyone who places their belief and trust in Jesus, the only Son of God who was sent from Heaven and earth to purchase our pardon from sin and bring us the gift of salvation. Through Him and Him alone, a Christian becomes more than a conqueror, gaining victory over death and the grace while gaining an inheritance in the very Kingdom of Heaven where they will abide forever.

No angel or demon can change this. Neither can the present or future, or height or depth. Ditto for “any powers” or “anything else in all creation”.

Nothing can detach us from “the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” and nothing means just that nothing. It’s a love that is unending and unchangeable, a love that cannot be removed or disconnected from a believer.

Friends, as we move ever closer to celebrating the birth of our Savior, let’s do so with the joy that comes from knowing that He not only brings the gift of eternal life from Heaven to earth but also a permanent love from the Father, a Father who cared for the world and its people so much that He didn’t wish for them to perish (John 3:16).

If you’re feeling unloved today, I encourage you to look first to Bethlehem’s manger, then to Calvary’s cross, and then to the empty tomb, following the journey of Jesus that was defined by selfless sacrifice and a love that was willing to die in your place so you could find perpetual, indissoluble love forever through Him.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
