The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Do you worry about what others thing about you?
If so, join the masses because I believe everyone will fall into this trap at sometime in their life. I know I have.
Here’s what I think we find when we try to shape the way we live to gain the approval of others.
We will never reach a point of satisfaction. This is because everyone seems to have an opinion about how we should act.
One person wants you to live a way different from the way you’re living and another will think you’re living fine as you are.
So which one are you going to suit?
It’s a no win situation, right?
Either way, someone is going to view you negatively and it can be completely frustrating and even depressing because you will start to feel like you can’t please everybody.
And the very truth of the matter is you can’t.
As we see in our single verse from Galatians, chapter 1, the Apostle Paul was dealing with the matter of approval. He had planted so many churches as he spread the Gospel and made countless disciples along the way. Many of these churches and their believers started to develop opinions about Paul. Some of them, influenced by false teachers like what was happening in Galatia, even questioned Paul and the Gospel he had preached. They had an idea of what they felt Paul should be and what he should do but he wasn’t going to allow himself to be swayed by it. He was only concerned about pleasing one person and that was God. All that mattered to Paul was winning the Lord’s approval for this would mean he was truly a “servant of Christ”, the Son of God who was perfectly about His Father’s business at all times.
If you’re gauging your happiness in life on the approval of others, you will never find peace because as the old saying goes, “You can’t please everybody”. I encourage you to follow the lead of Paul and only seek to please the Lord with the way you live.
For His opinion is the only one that truly matters.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
