The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

John 3:19-21

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. Thus, God did not send His Son to condemn the world but rather to save it.

That’s the truths we have learned in the past couple devotions from John, Chapter 3, truths that carry with them pairs of options, one good and one not so good.

Believe in Jesus and have eternal life. Reject Jesus and perish.

Believe in Jesus and be saved. Refuse to believe and receive condemnation and damnation.

In today’s scripture passage, we conclude these pairs of options by adding one more. Look again at these verses:

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.  John 3:19-21

Here we see that God’s people are either living in the light or the dark. There is no middle ground.

How do you know which side you’re living on?

The scriptures tells us.

For on one side is living in evil, code for saying people are choosing to live in sin and apart from Jesus. These people are living in the dark and God’s word tells us that they love the darkness more than the light, evidenced by their deeds with were defined by evil. These people will always seek to do their acts in the dark because of concern their deeds will be exposed.

On the other side are people who have received and accepted Jesus as Savior, Jesus Himself representing the light that had come into the world. People who are living in Christ and committed to living in righteousness through Him, need not fear the light because the only things exposed will be the great works Jesus is leading them to do. These people are Christ believers who live in truth and have no fear of having what they do be in clear sight of the Lord.

So where do you stand today?

Do you live in the light or in the dark?

The answer simply lies in whether you believe in Jesus or not.

If not, then you are going to perish, condemned and living in the dark.

If so, then you will have eternal life, saved from destruction and living in the light.

It’s been said that life is all about choices. That certainly is the case when it comes to salvation. My prayer is that you will come to the light and accept the offer of everlasting life through Jesus if you still have yet to do so. For the dark has nothing for you except doom and ruin.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
