In Christ, Mark
The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
Do you see a
person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.
Proverbs 26:12
This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to
God.
I have been writing from
the Book of Proverbs since early August of last year, a period that is soon to
span seven months. Across this time period, we have seen one major theme repeat
itself:
We are expected to live in
wisdom and that wisdom only comes from the Lord.
A person of discernment and
prudence recognizes this and consistently and persistently turns to the Lord
for guidance and direction. Conversely, a fool rejects the Lord’s offer of
wisdom and relies on their own intellect instead. They see themselves as wise
in their own eyes and not needing any external aid.
Not a smart attitude to
adopt.
Why?
Well, first of all, we find
the word of the Lord telling us the following regarding wisdom:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
Note here that we are never
wise on our own for it’s the respect and knowledge of the Lord that brings us
wisdom and understanding in life. We are to trust in the Lord with all our
heart which means that all that we are is under His authority. We believe in a
Lord who can do all things, a Lord who never leaves us nor forsakes us, a Lord
who brings us so much understanding, insight, and perfectly divine perception
that we would never want to rely on our own intellect because we would see how
feeble we are before an Almighty, Infinite God and Maker.
Trust in the Lord with all
your heart, refusing to see yourself as wise in your own eyes, and He will
never let you down or guide you wrong in life.
Choose to go the opposite
direction and you will find yourself in a bad place. Look at today’s proverb:
Do you see a person wise in their own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for them. Proverbs 26:12
The warning from
the word of the Lord here cannot and should not be ignored. For there is
perhaps nothing worse in life than living in a way that takes away your hope
and seeing yourself as wise in your own eyes, apart from the Lord, will lead
you to a state of hopelessness. In fact, as to add insult to injury, note that
a fool, that is someone who has flat out rejected the Lord’s wisdom, is
actually more apt to have hope than someone who sees themselves as wise without
the Lord.
I don’t know about
you but I never want to be in a place where I see myself as hopeless in any
way. And so I give thanks for this word from the Scriptures and the direction
it brings. For a wise person will do just that, rejoice and pray unto the Lord
who will ever lead them into understanding of life as they obediently seek to
carry out His will and way. For we are never wise on our own but in Him, we can
embody His judiciousness and acumen in all that we do.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
