WHO WANTS TO BE AN EVILDOER?

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk, and so the innocent escape trouble.
Evildoers will bow down in the presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous
Evildoers foster rebellion against God; the messenger of death will be sent against them.
When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.

Proverbs 12:13, 14:19, 17:11, 21:15

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Are you an evildoer?

I don’t think anyone would come right out and admit it. Most actually would get downright upset if you even referred to them that way.

But think about it for a minute.

Isn’t sin equivalent with doing evil?

Look up the word and here are words synonymous with it:

wicked, bad, wrong, immoral, sinful, foul, dishonorable, corrupt, diabolical, or fiendish

Now let’s ask the question again:

Are you an evildoer?

By definition, we are because we all are sinners and all of us have done wrong or, in this discussion, evil in our lives. It’s the reality of the human condition. We all have the potential to be good and we have equal potential to be evil. The problem is that we have a tendency to trumpet our goodness while we downplay our sinfulness, especially when we assess ourselves. We suppress the negative tendencies we have and try and deflect the image that the word “evildoer” presents.

I mean, who wants to be an evildoer anyways?

The problem with our suppression tactics is that they don’t really address the issues that lead us into the realm of evil doing. Perhaps we would be better suited to take proactive action toward correcting and even eliminating any behavior that would place us in the category of evildoers.

And just in case we don’t see the urgency in dealing with our immoral actions and attitudes, God’s word offers us these proverbs to ponder:

Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk, and so the innocent escape trouble. Proverbs12:13
Evildoers foster rebellion against God; the messenger of death will be sent against them. Proverbs 17:11
When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. Proverbs 21:15

The first one is pretty mild compared to the other two. It basically advises those who would engage in evil speech against the innocent to not waste their time. Evil doers will be trapped in their sinful talk, exposed and revealed by the Lord before they have a chance to do the intended damage. Thus, the innocent are protected and escape the wickedness that was about to be brought on them.

Again, an evildoer should not even want to go down the road of slander in the first place. For the Lord is a judgmental Lord who brings justice to creation. No evildoer will escape His wrath for He despises and hates sinful behavior that does nothing but foster rebellion against a God who expects righteousness not iniquity. That wrath, our scripture tells us could include a messenger of death brought against them and if you don’t believe that can happen, maybe you should refer back to the Old Testament account of how the Israelites were freed from their Egyptian oppression and captivity. You’ll find that an angel of death was sent through Egypt killing all the firstborn people and animals (Exodus 12:29-30). Pharaoh scoffed at God’s demand to set His people free and his sinful disobedience resulted in a messenger of death being sent upon him and his people.

Yes, the thought of God’s justice and judgment should bring all of us to a place of terror, afraid of being held accountable as evildoers for the sins we have committed and are still committing.

Friends, this word of the Lord is unavoidable and we shouldn’t want to avoid it. Rather, we should embrace it and allow it to challenge and lead us away from sin and toward righteousness, to a place where we live in God’s favor through being obedient to His will and way.

After all, who wants to be an evildoer?

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
