HEALING POWER

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

The men of the city said to Elisha, "Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive."

"Bring me a new bowl," he said, "and put salt in it." So they brought it to him.

Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, "This is what the Lord says: 'I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.' "

And the water has remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.

2 Kings 2:19-22

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

If the Lord were to assess you, would he see you as having a lot of potential but with problems that were stunting your ability to be effective and productive for Him?

And if He did find you in that state, would you feel you could turn to Him for healing and correction, trusting and knowing that He could mend you and put you on the path to recovery and restoration?

Friends, we should have a great comfort and assurance in knowing we serve the Almighty God…the Maker and Creator of all things…the One who formed us and the One who can truly reform us when the need arises. No one…absolutely no one…can do the things that our Heavenly Father can do for us. All we need to do is turn to Him and believe He can make a way…even when there appears there is no way.

As we turn to our scriptures, we sense that the men of Jericho knew God could help them. They knew His Spirit was with Elisha who had just inherited the prophetic responsibility and mission of his predecessor and mentor Elijah.

And so, the “men of the city” went to Elisha and said, "Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive." In other words, Jericho itself was primed and ready for greatness but the bad water in and around the city was a hindrance to what it could become.

Likewise, sin pollutes every man and woman that God creates. It invades people who the Lord has marked for great things in and through Him and causes them to turn toward evil ways…ways that cause them to be as bad and unproductive as the water and land around Jericho.

Without some form of rescue, healing and restoration, we would be doomed to destruction...just as Jericho would have withered and become only a shell of what it could have been if its water problem went uncorrected.

Enter the power of the Lord…a power that brings miracles…a power that brings change…a power that renews and cures.

Jericho needed the power of the Lord to heal the water problem. Only a miracle would do. So the Lord did just that, working through His prophet servant Elisha.

For we read where Elisha asks the men of Jericho to “Bring me a new bowl…and put salt in it." And they do just as he asks, giving him the bowl of salt which he throws into the spring before saying, “This is what the Lord says: 'I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.' "

And guess what?

That’s exactly what happened. For Jericho’s water was healed that day by the Lord and as scripture tells us, it has “remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken”.

Now…one bowl of salt could never cure an entire water supply on its own merit. But turn a little salt over to the power of the Lord and anything can happen…and it did in Jericho.

Friends, is this not a major encouragement for us today?

The Lord…our Savior, Redeemer and Friend…has the power to heal and restore in even the worst circumstances. Nothing is beyond the works of His hands. His will prevails always.

Where are you today? Are you in need of the Lord’s healing power? Do you yearn for renewal, restoral and recovery?

If so, won’t you turn to the Lord right now and pray for Him to bring healing to you…to rid you of all that is bad…and to return your body, mind and soul to be the productive means by which you can serve Him obediently and be used as instruments of His will each and every day?

God’s healing power awaits you. Call on Him and watch how He delivers.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
